What is the Babysitter Course?
The Babysitter Course is suitable for students ages 11-14.
This is usually offered as an 8 hour course on a Saturday from 9am-5pm.
Generally there is a mix of boys and girls in the class. The maximum class size is 16 students.
During the Babysitter Course, students engage in a variety of interactive and hands-on activities while learning about the following topics:
- The business of babysitting
- Ages and stages of child development
- Feeding and burping an infant
- Changing a diaper
- Age appropriate games and activities
- Age appropriate food choices
- Handling uncooperative children
- Caring for a sick child
- Handling various emergency situations
- Preventing common childhood injuries
This is a Canadian Safety Council Babysitting Course. As such, students are required to write a test at the end of their course.
The passing mark is 75%. Students struggling with reading, reading comprehension or writing may ask to take the test orally.
Please indicate this on the registration form when registering your child.
Upon successful completion of the course, students receive their Babysitter Certificate.
Students wanting to expand their Child Care knowledge and skills are encouraged to also enroll in the Red Cross Child Care First Aid/CPR course.
